Atlantic salmon for experimental trials are produced at VESO Vikan's hatchery which is located 20 kilometres from Vikan. The hatchery is certified according to GLOBALG.A.P. standards.

15-30 grams parr are available all year, and smolts are available after a 12 weeks light manipulation period. Production of our own salmon ensures quality in every step from egg to smolts ready for transfer to sea. The hatchery produces standard salmon (15-30 grams) all year round, in addition to IPN susceptible salmon bred for lower resistance against IPN. The hatchery has a separate high quality fresh water source with stable temperatures, which allows smaller experimental trials without infectious agents to be conducted on site. The fish are screened for known pathogens throughout the production cycle.
