Several processes in fish production involve handling, which will always be stressful for the fish. It can be vaccination, lice treatment, transportation and other factors. Stress increases the risk of disease and can ultimately lead to increased mortality.

Stress is unfavorable for all animals, both on land and in water. By using anesthesia, one can minimize the acute stress of handling, as well as reduce the chronic stress in the aftermath. Anesthetic can also help make the process itself easier, as calm fish are easier to handle.

Sea lice represents the most significant expense for the salmon farming industry each year. Additionally, through the traffic light system, sea lice determine which producers are allowed to increase, must reduce, or can maintain their current production levels. The purpose of the traffic light system is to protect wild salmon, but lice also pose a health and welfare issue for farmed salmon.

If the lice threshold is exceeded, treatment is required. Today, there are many ways to remove and protect against lice, but one of the most important methods remains medical treatment with pharmaceuticals.

Although the use of pharmaceuticals against sea lice has been significantly reduced in recent years, there is still a need for effective treatments. Reduced sensitivity and resistance are among the biggest challenges in treating sea lice, making research into new and effective methods and substances crucial.

Rotenone has previously been used as an insecticide to control pest insects on livestock and agricultural products, as well as to combat external parasites on domestic animals such as dogs and cats. Today, various rotenone solutions are mainly used to eradicate the salmon parasite Gyrodactylus salaris or introduced fish species in rivers, streams, and lakes.

Vidalife is a unique, skin-protective water treatment agent used in hatcheries, broodstock facilities, and during transportation. It can be used in tanks and containers, on equipment and tools, as well as on other surfaces that come into contact with fish.

RAS Right Marine is a broad range of naturally occurring bacterial species, including nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria, that quickly inoculate a saltwater RAS biofilter. It outcompetes and suppresses pathogenic species while maintaining and enhancing the nitrification process. Ideal for use in salinities over 12 ppt. It is stable in liquid form, with a 2-year shelf life at room temperature.
